James Mulhern

This story was an excerpt from Molly Bonamici, about a protagonist Kirkus Reviews called “gleefully and wonderully odd.” That character, who is labeled an “Angel of Death” by a faith healer at the age of seventeen does find herself “surrounded by death” throughout her life. The genesis for her character and the novel itself is my own experience of five close deaths in less than a one-year period. Writing the novel was cathartic, and while the topic may sound dark, the story itself is filled with humor, intrigue, and hope.
