The story originated from a walk along the coast that I’ve taken many times: I watched the islands being built, and heard the unearthly booms in the night. It’s an environment I have been part of. Landscape inspires me, and a significant part of my writing is creating a believable sense of place for my characters to inhabit. I like to explore how we are shaped by our surroundings, and the relationship between exterior and interior worlds. I’m also intrigued by how the past bleeds into and effects the present, and to wonder how it may affect the future.
